This family garden was a project very much emotionally conceived. The clients mum had passed the year before and she was a very keen gardener. They wanted to create a space for the whole family to really use as much as possible and a sort of tribute to his mum, creating memories and conceived from memories also.
The home is a beautiful countryside cottage so we wanted to be creative and a bit out there while keeping it pulled back and in keeping. An oak pergola takes centre stage on a limestone patio that pops up out of the ground amongst rocks and gorgeous native planting. We have roses, akilia, ferns, foxgloves, jasmine and a laurel hedge wraps around you replicating the walls of a room. Down from there is a sunken patio area boarded with tropical hardwood timbers in steels carved into the rockery and ferns.
An awful lot of fun though it was a really clay heavy garden. Lots of work underneath to deal with that and keep it safe for the future.
A very emotional handover!
